Lummicron Documentation

Everything you need to get your team up and running with Lummicron. Start with the quick-start guide or jump to a specific topic.

Getting Started

Lummicron requires no software installation. Everything runs in your browser. Create an account, make a repository, and upload your first file — it takes under two minutes.

Lummicron dashboard — repository list view

The dashboard shows all your repositories at a glance. Each card displays the repo name, privacy level, last updated time, and a quick link to upload a new file.

1

Create an account

Sign up with your email address to get started.

2

Create a repository

Think of a repository as a project folder. Name it after your project or part — e.g., "Engine Bracket" or "Frame Assembly". Set it to Private or Public.

3

Upload your first file

Drag and drop a DWG, DXF, or STL file into your new repository. Add a version message (like "Initial design") to describe what this version represents.

4

Invite your team

Optional

Go to Settings → Members and invite teammates by email. Assign roles to control who can upload, who can review, and who has admin access.

Repositories

A repository is the top-level container for a design project. It holds all related files, their version histories, comments, and activity logs.

Repository detail view — file list and version sidebar

The repository view shows all files in a folder structure on the left, with a version sidebar on the right. Click any file to see its full version history and open the 3D viewer.

Public repositories

Anyone with the link can view files. Good for sharing work with clients or vendors.

Private repositories

Only invited members of your organization can access. Default for internal work.

File organization

Files can be organized in folders within a repository. Use folders to group assemblies or design stages.

Repository settings

Change privacy, rename, manage member access, or delete a repository from the Settings tab.

Version History

Every time you upload a file, Lummicron stores it as a new version. Versions are numbered sequentially (v1, v2, v3…) and each one is permanent — you can never accidentally overwrite history.

Version history panel — showing v1 through v5 with timestamps and authors

The version panel shows each upload with its version number, the message you wrote, who uploaded it, and when. Click any version to switch the viewer and file preview to that point in time.

Best practices for version messages

  • Be specific: "Updated wall thickness from 3mm to 5mm" beats "changes"
  • Reference design decisions: "Increased fillet radius per review feedback from J. Smith"
  • Note the reason for rollbacks: "Reverting — tolerance spec changed"

3D Viewer

Lummicron includes a full WebGL-powered 3D viewer for STL files. No software installation needed — models render directly in your browser on any device.

In-browser 3D viewer — model with wireframe overlay and camera controls

The 3D viewer gives you orbit, pan, and zoom controls. Toggle wireframe mode to inspect geometry. Save named views to bookmark specific camera angles for review.

Saved views panel — list of named camera positions with thumbnails

Saved views preserve the exact camera position, rotation, and zoom level. Share a specific view with a teammate to make sure everyone is looking at the same part of the model.

Teams & Organizations

Organizations are the top-level workspace for a company or group. Within an organization, you can create teams — each with their own set of members and repository access permissions.

Organization settings — member list with roles and team assignments

The organization settings page shows every member, their role, and which teams they belong to. Invite new members by email. Admins can update roles or remove access at any time.

Owner

Full control. Can manage billing, delete the organization, and promote others to Owner.

Admin

Manage members and teams. Grant and revoke repository access. Cannot delete the organization.

Member

Access to repositories they are explicitly granted. Standard upload and review capabilities.

Guest

Read-only access to specific repositories. Cannot upload files or leave comments by default.

File Locking

When you're actively editing a file, lock it to signal to your team that a new version is in progress. Locked files show a visible indicator to all members of the repository.

Repository file list — showing a locked file with owner badge and lock timestamp

Locked files display who locked them and when, so teammates know to wait or coordinate. When you finish editing and upload the new version, the lock is released automatically.

Admin override

Organization Owners and Admins can release a lock held by another user. Use this if a teammate is unavailable and the file needs to be updated urgently.

Review Requests

Use review requests to formally ask a teammate to review a specific version of a file. This creates a trackable approval workflow — similar to a pull request in software engineering.

Review request panel — showing reviewer, status, and inline comments

The review panel shows the reviewer, the version under review, the current status (pending, approved, or changes requested), and any comments left during the review.

Pending

Review has been requested. The reviewer has been notified.

Approved

Reviewer approved this version. The design is cleared to proceed.

Changes Requested

Reviewer left feedback. Uploader should address comments and re-upload.

Comments

Leave comments on any file version or on a saved 3D view. Comments support threaded replies, so conversations stay organized and in context.

Version comment thread — showing a discussion between two engineers with a resolved marker

Each comment is anchored to a specific version. Mark a comment as resolved once it's been addressed — resolved comments are collapsed but never deleted, preserving the full history of feedback.

Share Links

Generate a public share link for any file. The recipient can view the 3D model or download the file without needing a Lummicron account. Ideal for sharing with clients, vendors, or manufacturers.

Share link modal — generated URL with copy button and revoke option

Each share link is tied to a specific file version. Revoking a link immediately removes access — even if someone bookmarked it. You can generate a new link at any time.

Audit Trail

Every action in Lummicron is logged — uploads, downloads, comments, reviews, share link creation, and membership changes. The audit trail is append-only and cannot be edited.

Audit trail — chronological action log with actor, action type, and timestamp

Filter the audit log by user, action type, or date range. Each entry shows the actor, the action, the affected file or resource, and the exact timestamp.

Compliance use cases

The audit trail supports regulatory and quality management requirements by providing a complete, timestamped record of who changed what and when. Export data is available on Team and Enterprise plans.
